Being Stewards of out Bodies

Being Stewards of our Bodies

The law enforcement profession is demanding and your career can slowly erode your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Carving out the necessary time to take care of your own wellness is crucial in this profession. This is called Self-Care.

Self-Care is being attentive to your overall physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and having an adequate plan to decompress and guard yourself against the profession and life. It is vital that you find a self-care plan that works well for you, a self-care plan that is healthy and productive to your wellbeing. This could be biking, hiking, painting, gardening, being in nature, fishing, or crocheting. The key to self-care is finding something that works for you and developing it into a multi-dimensional plan that incorporates the four main areas of influence.

When you take care of your overall health and wellness you are being a good steward of your mind, body, and soul. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are “not your own” and “bought with a price,” so we should “glorify God” with them. When we practice self-care we are being good stewards of our bodies. Failing to do so results in high levels of stress, burnout, depression, low morale, cardiovascular disease and other health complications. Psalm 139:14states, “I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.”

So, the question is, are you practicing self-care in your life?

Be safe and God Bless,
