Life Change, Not New Years Resolutions

It is that time of year again. The time that we all tend to make those New Year’s Resolutions. These resolutions come in many forms, eating better, exercising, reading more, being a more genuine person, and the list goes on. Often, these resolutions all end the same, with a cabinet full of unused supplements or a stack of unread books.

Now, yes, I understand that some individuals follow through, but for the majority of us…

So, what makes the difference? First, it is about life change and not a resolution for the new year. When we decide to make a life change, it is based on the hardened truth there is a need for change. A life change can be the result of an unsavory medical diagnoses, a marriage, a new addition to the family, or maybe even a significant loss. Despite the driving factor, there is a purpose to the life change that is anchored to something more tangible than just mere words.

Although, there is a significant aspect to life change that has to take place.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

“The old has passed away.” Life change requires the old to pass away for the new to thrive. However, life changes are not easy and require effort. Here are some quick tips:

·      Be realistic in what needs to take place and move from there.

·      Know your triggers and guard yourself against digging up the old you.

·      Make use of the resources that are at your disposal.

·      Have a plan.

·      Get an accountability partner.

·      Commit.

Only you know the change that is needed.

Do not quit.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
